Here is an excerpt from my short story "Dead End".
"He could feel it. He turned around and looked behind him. To the left, back in the trees, he saw two yellow eyes. But they were too high. Maybe something was in a tree, but the eyes were nearly seven feet up. Something had to be in a tree. He waited, holding his breath.
Then, a low, rhythmic thrumming sound started—not quite a growl, but a vibration that he felt in his chest more than he heard in his ears."
The Echo of Her except:
"She looked at the lump laying in the bed. Annoyed she flung the cover off her and got up. She opened the door and reached to flip the switch when she heard the TV downstairs.
Why had hadn’t turned off the TV.
“Ugh, Why didn’t you turn off the TV?”
The lump moved a little and started snoring.
She stomped down the stairs and walked into the living room. What greeted her was pure horror. He husband was lying on the couch. Blood trickled out of his mouth. Eyes were open in a surprised expression. He was dead.
She started to scream, instead she put her hand over her mouth. A terrifying thought occurred to her. If her husband was here…then who was in the bed next to her."
